The most obvious difference is how the Earth was created. In How the World Was Made and The Sky Tree, the earth is created by animals. “The Tree of Heaven” describes how a group of animals, “the beaver, the mink, the muskrat, and the otter, each raised a handful of wet earth and placed it on the turtle's back until they had created an island of large size". He then describes “the great tree” that falls to the earth and takes root, creating plants. And How the Earth Was Created tells of how a water beetle dived to the bottom of the ocean and brought up the mud where it then "began to grow and expand on all sides until it became the island we call earth." That land was then "tied to the sky with four cords". Although these two stories are vaguely similar, the book of Genesis differs greatly. In Genesis an omnipotent being commands the earth to appear. It is stated that “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth” and that “On the seventh day God finished the work he had done”. Another example of the many differences in these stories is why the earth was created. For example, in The Sky Tree, Turtle sees a woman falling from the sky and asks his friends to "bring up the earth and place it on Turtle's back", so that the woman has something to land on. They created the earth to save the woman's life. In How the World Was Made, the story states that the sky world is that
