Drugs are easily available everywhere around us. Personally, I know I've walked into a doctor's office with a seasonal cold and walked out with a handful of prescription medications. This behavior makes me wonder if there is a healthier alternative. Or perhaps doctors write prescriptions so easily because they are rewarded with financial incentives for doing so? We trust that our doctors feel like they are always looking out for our best interest, but companies' first priority is to make money. Every time you go to the doctor doesn't necessarily mean you need to be prescribed a new medication, but sometimes it feels that way. I know there are better alternatives than pills for every symptom. I grew up in a family where when I'm sick, most of the time, I don't go to the doctors. Just this school year, my roommate and I both had the common cold. Our ways of fighting this cold were very different from each other. I found myself making sure I eat healthy and exercise daily. On the other hand, my roommate's way of fighting a cold was to get a week's worth of prescription medicine. We both got better within a couple of days, but I wasn't putting any harmful chemicals into my body to do it
