“What they seem not to recognize is that, as a socially disadvantaged child, in my case such bilingualism could not have been achieved so quickly. “He was quite frustrated when he switched to using English, just like I did. When I first came to America and people don't understand my accent at all, I feel depressed, then I realized that I had to do my best like Richard did, that is, do our best by learning correct English to get a public identity. When we do our best to adapt American culture, we must also appreciate our language and culture. This is where we need to find the balance between adapting to foreign culture and appreciating our own culture.
