The Strengths-Based Approach provides the foundation for influencing confident, capable students and their “unique qualities and abilities” (DEEWR, 2009, p. 9). Both models can be used in collaboration with each other to provide a comprehensive overview of the child. The two take into account the influences and connections that society brings and understand how some influences might affect other children differently. Using learned strengths focuses on the ability to strive for success, a strong sense of identity and well-being, connecting to community, and being confident learners and communicators. These examples are reflected in the development outcomes of the Early Years Learning Framework (2009). A shift towards using this approach requires a commitment to change and an evaluation of the means to work with and facilitate positive influences on the child's engagement in the process
