Knowing what social class is important. Trying to live in an environment you don't fit in will only lead to bad things. This is why it is important to stay within your social class. In today's society our social class level will have a great impact on our lives. It will impact your life by living in a good neighborhood or a bad one. Belonging to the higher social classes is better but if you are not there yet, don't try to live their lifestyles. Many of the people who make up the bottom of the social class are immigrants. They have no choice but to be in this class. When you live in a low social class you might have really bad houses. In “Silent Dancing” Judith Ortiz Cofer writes: “I remember the way the heating pipes rattled and rattled. Many low class individuals will dream of going out and living in a better place. Cofer writes: "Getting out of the barrio became my father's obsession..." This shows how determined his father was to leave and find better living conditions. It also shows how he no longer wanted to be associated with the lower class. Even his father knew that living there would bring no good. Cofer demonstrates this when he writes, “…we were never allowed to form bonds with the place or the people who lived there.” His father thought that associating with other lower class people would most likely corrupt his children. No father would want his children to affiliate with the wrong group for safety reasons. He wanted his children to be safe and away from all the evil the barrio faced. In the article What is the relationship between poverty and poor decision-making capacity? Cynthia Boyd wrote: “It may be that low-income people expend so much mental energy dealing with each day balancing the demands of life with the weight of financial problems that they have less ability to deal with larger issues affecting their lives – issues like work, education, parenting? Yes, suggest researchers at the University of Warwick in Coventry, England." This shows that not all lower class people make bad decisions because they want to. Some of their poor decisions stem from all the stress they are under. They are stressed about paying bills, managing a limited budget with the little money they receive, and many other situations that may arise in their life. If they didn't have this additional stress in their lives, they might have simply made better decisions and perhaps gotten out of the low social echelon
