Katniss Everdeen seems to be everyone's favorite rebel in The Hunger Games. In today's world, however, most people seem to despise those who are known as street or graffiti artists. Both Katniss and these artists represent the rebellion, but they don't mean to. Katniss' hunting, volunteering, and three-finger salute are all signs of altruism and respect, although they are interpreted as acts of rebellion. These acts can teach today's world about the life of the infamous street performers in Exit Through the Gift Shop. Exit Through the Gift Shop is a documentary style film made by the infamous street artist Banksy. Make this film to tell the story of Thierry Guetta. Thierry is a Frenchman who owns a clothing store in Los Angeles. He also likes to film everything. His cousin is the famous street artist Space Invader, so Thierry followed him and filmed him doing his work. As Thierry continues to do so, he begins to meet more and more street artists. The footage of this documentary shows Thierry following famous characters such as Shepard Fairy and others. It gives insight into why and how they produce art in this way. Katniss's first act that catches the Capitol's attention as a possible rebellion is her hunt in a forest that is illegal to enter. Katniss goes out to this field every day with her friend Gale. They kill several animals and then sell or trade them on the black market. If the living conditions in District Twelve, where Katniss lives, weren't so terrible, she wouldn't have to carry out these illegal acts to keep her family alive. Katniss' father was killed in a mining accident, and ever since Katniss feels responsible for keeping her family alive. Katniss is the kind of girl who doesn't want to cause trouble... middle of paper....... Government officials view any act of producing street art as rebellion when it honestly isn't. Shepard Fairey is a great example of this. He made street art for about ten years before meeting Thierry and claims he made this art because he thought it was beautiful. He really didn't want to make anyone angry with his work. He just wanted to share his passion with the world in the way he saw fit. Most people wouldn't consider Katniss Everdeen and street or graffiti artists similar in any way, but they can be. Both symbolize rebellion for some people, including governments in power. In all honesty, both Katniss and these artists just want to share their opinions on certain topics or share a passion they have. When they act in certain ways they are considered rebellious when in reality they are completely innocent and individualistic.
