Problems in Guiyu, ChinaWhat actually happens in Guiyu is not legal as it is an informal e-waste recycling operation. Most imported electronic products are actually smuggled from another country into China, Guiyu, under the “pretext” of recycling. There is mismanagement of used electronic components which are sold to the highest foreign bidder without following any proper recycling procedure. Trade was illegal transfer in Guiyu, and recycling was done in primitive ways due to environmental devastation. This recycling system is a profitable business for recyclers who can earn additional profits by selling these used electronic products to China. Furthermore, under the guise of money laundering operations they are able to avoid any taxes from the US federal government. However, the government has noticed the health and environmental problems occurring in Guiyu and has taken some reasonable measures to reduce the burdens in Guiyu, such as banning the import of electronic waste. However, the solution that was believed to ease the burden and help the people of Guiyu, thanks to the massive revenue, represents a success in terms of human rights. Guiyu people were willing to work in this polluted and dangerous land as they earn higher income than farmers or other workers. Revenues reached their peak especially in the rapid production of electronic items. Furthermore, the ban on the import of e-waste raises the issue of shortage of raw materials. The government cannot freely impose any rules in Guiyu as the entire economy depends on this sector and the livelihood of people in Guiyu depends on it. Therefore, Guiyu could never be closed by the government in view of the 150,000 people who were in... half of the paper......can be applied. On the other hand, major companies in the industry should be strengthened and pressured to avoid any hazardous chemicals when creating their products. They should prepare an e-waste plan when producing each electronic product. Furthermore, industry and people should ensure that their products have been properly disposed of and recycled during the e-waste disposal process. From 2009 to 2011, China successfully regulated e-waste disposal with the "Old for New Appliances Discount Program." Although China has restricted the smuggling of e-waste, the majority of e-waste is believed to have been produced domestically. China applies and encourages major industries and manufacturing to apply low toxicity chemicals in their products regarding legality and morality. It is important to understand business ethics where profit is never their main objective.
