In our world some of the largest corporations and businesses produce their products in sweatshops. Wal-Mart, JC Penney, Sears, and Nike are just a few of the large companies that use sweatshops. Sweatshops are work establishments where employees are forced to work hard in poor conditions for low wages. These companies and businesses that have sweatshops take advantage of their workers from overseas countries and this is unfair to them (Context). Therefore, something certainly needs to be done and such activities need to be stopped. First of all, why do sweatshops exist? Sweatshops exist because companies and businesses increase profits by cutting costs in any way possible. Therefore, they build these low-budget factories called “sweatshops”. This is how companies minimize total costs and look for locations with the lowest wages and protection of human rights (Context). Now let's take a look and see why sweatshop labor is so horrendous. The way sweatshops treat their workers is absolutely brutal. They force their workers to work up to 60-80 hours a week and don't pay them enough to even provide food for their families. Sometimes workers receive only a few cents for a full day's work (Context). Another disadvantage is that workers are sometimes even forced to work without receiving any wages until they have paid off mounting debts, which can take several years. Basically, no matter how long these workers work, they will still continue to be affected by poverty (women). Sweatshops also hire young children and force them to work.
