The colonists had many prejudices against the Native Americans since their arrival. They viewed the Native Americans as a threat and many villages were buried and innocent people were killed. Their lands, people, and cultures were taken from them only because the settlers believed they were different from them. Today, Native Americans “are trying to regain their land through the U.S. justice system (Smith-Llera 2002). The arrival of more Europeans made life more difficult for the Iroquois. Many of their citizens died of European diseases or were killed. The colonists took advantage of the Native Americans. They forced them to sign treaties they didn't understand. When the United States was formed, the Iroquois people were forced to leave and were not protected by any of their laws. As a result, many Native Americans not only lost their land, but laws were enacted that destroyed their cultures.
