Topic > My Leadership Style: My Leadership Philosophy

More important than content knowledge are the pedagogical skills that develop skilled students. Educators must be able to work with a student to identify interests and then define learning goals. The content must be relevant to the student, integrated across disciplinary domains and reflect real-world issues, it must facilitate the acquisition of skills and knowledge, it must build metacognitive and technological skills, cultivate independence and promote collaboration (Saavedra & Opfer, 2012). Today's essential skills for both teachers and students are metacognitive and process-oriented and include critical thinking and problem solving, collaboration and leadership, agility and adaptability, initiative and entrepreneurship, effective communication, access and analysis of information, curiosity and imagination Wagner (2008). Today's educators must be masters of learning, not necessarily masters of content, and today's students must have the skills to adapt to any new situation.
