Many consider crime to be a social phenomenon, but recently crime in big cities has caused big problems. From coast to coast, crime is sweeping through our cities and leaving destruction in its wake. Students are being killed on the way to school, robberies are becoming a natural occurrence every day, and murders are the topic of the nightly news. New York, Detroit and Chicago are all experiencing a spike in violent crime, which is hindering businesses, citizens and tourists who visit these cities. With the economy slowly regaining stability, now is the perfect time to address the problem of crime in our cities. President Obama told reporters that lowering crime rates in cities will help the economy grow. As technology advances, there needs to be a better way to patrol our streets. Implementation of modern technology in every city is the safest and easiest way to put an end to these crimes. Detroit, Michigan is one of the cities experiencing an increase in crime. Detroit is in an economic recession, which is the main reason why Detroit is considered one of the most dangerous cities in America. General Motors, Ford and Chrysler are the main employers and with the recent layoffs many citizens are out of work, resulting in an increase in crime. In 2011 there were 280 murders and last year there was an increase of 65 murders bringing the total murders to 345 people. Detroit is also seeing a notable increase in its homicide rate: There have been 375 documented homicides in the past year. This is a 10% increase compared to the previous year. The Detroit Police Department is understaffed and overworked. Implementing the technology in Detroit will benefit the community and local police department to help reduce crime system...... medium paper and automatically send a report to all units in the area with the address and photos of the land. This not only reduces wage costs, but is faster and more reliable than human use. Technology is the way of the future. The way we operate and think is constantly evolving and changing. Technology should be a tool that helps us in everyday life. Smartphones were thought to be a futuristic phone that only the rich could buy; but in today's society, 70% of the US population owns a smartphone. Using modern technology to fight crime in cities should be the next step to help police agencies around the world. AFIS, Vera Plate, vehicle slowing systems, ShotSpotter and non-lethal weapons are the future of policing. All of these technologies will save lives and reduce crime rates and now is the time to start implementing them in our cities across the United States.
