Life is like a game of blackjack where we are unknowingly dealt good or bad cards. This unpredictability makes it difficult to make risky decisions. Unfortunately many factors can lead to the bad card where, both in the game and in life, people try to prevent us from achieving the goal. There are two choices to change the outcome, however, we can fold or risk it. The beauty of taking a risk is that, if you're lucky, life gives you that much-needed card. When the winning card is dealt, a person is immediately relieved. That good hand pushes a person to outweigh the pros over the cons and keep striving for the winning pot or, in this case, the goal in life. Enrique in Sonia Nazario's "Enrique's Journey" is dealt both good and bad cards in life, as he undergoes a battle in which he is internally pushed to continue while also externally pushed to quit, thus leading him to discover himself as a worthy human being. while traveling in the United States; sadly, however, his arrival in the United States refutes what he had clearly envisioned for himself. The push and pull factors in Enrique's desire for the United States not only allow him to rediscover himself as an individual in a world of uncertainty, but also eliminate his constant fear of failure as a promising human being; it also shows the eternal hope of a desperate man found in hopeful migrants. In Sonia Nazario’s “Enrique’s Journey,” his mother’s journey has poured “emptiness” into the heart of a once-comfortable child, leaving him to “fight” to hold on to the memories they shared. Enrique's life after Lourdes' departure triggered the traumatizing disappearance of his identity. He threw away this broken identity facing many obstacles, yet every attempt... middle of paper... the rest became a nightmare. Enrique's time away from his mother made them more like "strangers" than family members. Filled with anger stemming from the years they spent apart from each other, he refused to obey his mother's wish for them to live healthier. While lost in family chaos, he returned to drug addiction, shattering his dream of a perfect family dynamic. Even though his dream became a nightmare, he was able to realize it due to a key feature where his inner strength pushed him not to give up on the dream of seeing his mother. This means that if a person is willing to work hard to achieve their dream through diligence, it can be achieved. Even if the result may not be what you hoped for, being able to say you accomplished something is pleasant for the soul. His success in reaching the United States despite many falls fulfills a missing piece in the broken puzzle of a life.
