Acceleration by Graham McNamee* Duncan, Vinny and Wayne are all friends working - or wasting time - the summer before their senior year of high school. Duncan is the soul, Vinny the brains and Wayne the brawn. Late the previous summer, Duncan attempted to save a drowning girl and failed. Not being a hero has really affected his life, especially his relationship with his girlfriend Kim. Additionally, he is now terrified of swimming, especially when the nightmares return. Duncan's summer job deals with lost property on public transportation. While trying to make the hours pass faster, Duncan examines objects, particularly books and golf clubs. One day he discovers an anonymous and nameless diary, which describes sadistic torture experiments on animals, boasts of arson and the planning of the serial murder of three women. Duncan decides to make amends for his failure last summer by tracking down the owner of the diary using clues left hidden in the diary. After talking to his friend Vinny, Duncan decides to hand the diary over to the police, but they don't take it seriously, so he decides to get help from Vinny, do some research at the local library and find out where the killer works. and lives so he can prove to the police that the diary is real. But in the meantime, when Duncan finds the serial killer's house, he decides to check it out but unfortunately just at that moment the serial killer appears and chases Duncan to the subway station. There they argue and both fall onto the subway tracks in the station where they are hit by the train. Duncan fortunately survives but the serial killer dies.2. Explain to me how a character in the book has changed or is starting to change in the part you are reading?...... middle of the paper...... story, this made me think that in the end the serial killer is captured but that turned out to be nothing, while still keeping the suspense of when the real serial killer will come into hand. But against all my predictions, the serial killer came alone to Duncan to retrieve his lost diary from the lost and found office. This gave me chills when it came at a moment I wasn't expecting. This led to the sudden climax of the story making me even more anxious that even if Duncan has found the serial killer, how will he ever stop this killing machine. And at the end, when the serial killer was chasing Duncan on the subway tracks, they both get hit by the train, creating more anxiety in my mind about how Duncan will survive this kind of hit. But in the end he survives and the serial killer dies, thus ultimately creating a happy mental image.
