HopscotchThe next morning everyone was in a good mood. Sampson was a little cranky because he hadn't had a restful sleep as he tried to keep one eye open while surveying the camp. But he knew he had to keep an eye on Suzanne because they were still within reach of the Ruby Tribe. He could have rested better the next night. After packing everything up, they made sure the fire was out and set off again. It was a long walk and they knew it, so everyone just paced themselves and kept going. The blister on Jackie's foot had been bandaged and felt better, and Shadow felt much better too. Frances had room in her backpack, so the top was open and Suzanne was very comfortable sitting there. It also had a great view from the top. Although he felt better, his ankle was still very sore. They had planned to take a slightly different route back. It involved an extra hill and two more miles, but it would take them to an area where they could visit others of the Oakwood tribe. Ambur said: “Listen everyone. We all know that Lucinda has a beautiful stone with her. We don't know for sure what else it could be. But for now we won't say anything about it. We should pretend it doesn't exist." Word spread (as Sampson continued with a note) that they would be there for dinner and the night. Five families met there occasionally because it was a central place for all of them. When they finally arrived it looked like a party was going on. And Ambur's group was welcomed like heroes returning home from battle. Everyone wanted to know what happened in the Afterlife and everyone wanted to meet Shadow and Suzanne. It was a real homecoming! There were little troll kids running everywhere and playing with each of these papers. Be strong and never smoke again. Dinner was fried chicken, ravioli, and anything else you could think of. Surely no one went to bed hungry that night. Sampson was also able to rest and eat, as raw chicken was one of his favorites! The evening passed quickly with Shadow and Suzanne the main attraction. While most had heard of the Chameleon Tribe, not many had ever seen a member before, needless to say, or had ever spoken to one. It was great to finally meet them. Both Shadow and Suzanne were very gracious with their time and answered as many questions as they could. The kids loved seeing them change color to "disappear" and then "reappear" again, just wishing they could do it too! Soon it was time for bed and everyone lay down in their sleeping bags. The twins, Shadow and Suzanne, kept warm in France's sweatshirt.
