“Economics is the method; the goal is to change the heart and soul” (Thathcer, 1981). Margaret Thatcher is undoubtedly one of the most famous personalities in British history. Initially the first woman to be elected leader of the party, she entered 10 Downing Street as Prime Minister. Secondly, his revolutionary policies and robust capitalist ideology shook Britain. During his sovereignty which lasted eleven and a half years (May 1979-November 1990), he shocked Great Britain with his policies of fighting inflation, fighting trade unions, strengthening the British image in foreign affairs, the memorable privatization and the idea of popular capitalism and much more. Although the pursuit of such policies leads to high unemployment and numerous strikes by the public, Thatcher's argument in favor of such changes was the underlined importance of changing social attitudes in order to successfully compete with the world in rapid development. Some of the evident new attitudes that persist in Britain today can be summed up as efficiency, entrepreneurship, competition and independent responsibility. Thatcherism served as a catalyst for the formation of modern “Western/capitalist culture” which has influenced the daily lives of so many people around the world. What were these effects in people's daily lives? I will talk about it in this essay. Margaret Hilda was born in Grantham, England in 1925 to Alfred and Beatrice Roberts.
