Banning gay marriage is directly against the Declaration of Independence and obviously violates Americans' right to pursue happiness. E. Teetsel, author of “Why I Fight Against Same-Sex Marriage” continues to preach the same closed, stereotypical beliefs about same-sex couples; while homosexual couples should be given the right to marry because they too are people and deserve the same rights as heterosexual couples. Many Americans have distorted ideas about what a homosexual is. When in reality they are no different from everyone else except for their sexual orientation. There is no biological evidence that homosexual individuals are abnormal or less responsible, but many people continue to believe this nonsense to be true. When talking about gay rights, the definition of the word marriage often comes up. For example, in E. Teetsel's article he begins by defining marriage as “the beginning of the family, the foundation of human society. By design, a priceless man and woman come together and create priceless new lives” (Teetsel, 2013). Although marriage has also been defined by others as “A civil, social and legal institution whereby two consenting adults establish their lifelong relationship based on love and commitment” (Raven, 2013).
