From the bridges, tunnels and roads that many drive on, to the buildings and homes that we humans live in and work on. We take a lot for granted, because none of this would exist without the specialized work of civil engineers. Civil engineers are people whose job involves designing, building, managing, and making sure the project follows a good budget. Some of the things these people design are used in our daily lives. Examples of this are buildings, roads, bridges, tunnels and even the underground sewer system. Having to move around a lot makes their lives slightly more stressful. To maintain many construction sites, their work requires them to travel to numerous different locations in the space of a few days. With an average annual salary of around $79,340 without taxes, they manage to have a decent life. After taxes, however, these people earn $51,799, which gives them a monthly salary of $4,316. To the average American, this is considered middle class. I woke up early in the morning around 3:00 am and started my normal routine. I brushed my teeth and took a quick shower. Today I had to wake up really early because I had to go to a small town in Pennsylvania and help some builders build a new store that was supposed to be finished next week, which was going to be really difficult. I didn't have much time, so I grabbed three granola bars, put some of last night's pasta in a container, and headed out into the parking lot to my Honda CR-Z. I started the engine and spent a good 4 hours until arriving at the construction site at 7:00. The last thing a civil engineer needs to strategically purchase is groceries. Since a civil engineer has to travel a lot, he must always have something to eat while on the move. For example, if you have to travel to Pennsylvania at 7:00 am, you won't have enough time to stop at Starbucks and have a nice cup of coffee. That's why I decided to buy lots of granola bars so I can easily grab three or four when I have to go somewhere. I also bought many bottles of water for the same reason. For lunch and dinner I always eat microwaved pasta or pizza. I chose them because you can easily heat up food and have a quick lunch or dinner before going to sleep.
