§5 Summary: Professor Robert Langdon is brought to CERN to explain a mysterious symbol on the chest of a murdered scientist. Langdon sees that it is a symbol of the Illuminati, the Illuminati are an organization of scientists and they want revenge because the church is/was against them and science, but Langdon thought they no longer exist. It then turns out that the antimatter was also stolen from Vettra's laboratory and that it can be used for two purposes; as the most powerful energy source ever, or as the most powerful bomb ever (¼ gram is an explosion 800 meters in diameter). They discover that the Illuminati hid the bomb under Vatican City during the conclave and kidnapped 4 cardinals. Langdon must search for the cardinals in the city of Rome together with Vittoria, the daughter of Leonardo Vettra. Unfortunately, the first cardinal they find is already dead and marked Terra, one of the four elements of the Illuminatti. They see that there is a statue of Bernini in the church and the angel inside points to St. Peter's Square. They rush there, but it's already too late. The cardinal lights up in the square and has punctured lungs (which has to do with Air) and has the mark of Air on his chest. Subsequently, almost all of the world's press gathered in the square, together with 200,000 Romans and tourists. They know the bomb is in Vatican City, but they don't leave (these people are called disaster tourists, who don't care about the suffering of others or their own safety). Robert and Vittoria see a clue in the square and go to a church somewhere in the center of Rome. As in previous cases, they are assisted for safety by Commander Ollivetti. When they arrive at the church, the cardinal is horribly hanging over a fire and has the mark of fire on his chest. Then it turns out that the Assassin is still there. He shoots Ollivetti and kidnaps Vittoria. He then locks Langdon under a heavy sarcophagus. Meanwhile the cardinal has already died in the fire. Later, Langdon is rescued by firefighters. Find a clue about a fountain in a Bernini statue. Meanwhile, the Camerlengo stops the conclave and takes the cardinals to safety, but time is running out and the Assassin must be captured quickly to obtain information.
