The idea of the American Dream is still true today, even if it's about wealth, love, or fame. The thing that never changes about the American dream is that everyone deserves something in life and everyone, in some way, should strive to get it. Everyone in America wants to have some sort of financial success in their life. It is said that the American dream is that every man has the right to pursue happiness and strive for pace. In the play "A Raisin in the Sun", the author shows an African-American family struggling to get out of the poverty line, which prevents them from achieving financial stability, or the American dream. Its main focus is on Walter's effort to make it, or to be someone. It also shows how race, prejudice and economic issues affect a black man's role in his family, how he provides and his identity. It is also said that the Youngers family's dreams were unreal and that they could not achieve them due to their status in life. The two most common American dreams that the Youngers family wants to achieve are to be accepted by white society and to be financially stable. For example, when the younger family received their insurance check in the mail, Mom went out and brought a house to the white neighborhood. Shortly after bringing the house to the white neighborhood, known as Clybourne Park, they immediately sent a representative named Karl Linder. Linder was part of the New Neighbor Orientation Committee that welcomed newcomers to the neighborhood. Unfortunately, since the young men were black, Linder declared, "It is a matter of the people of Clybourne Park believing, rightly or wrongly, as I have said, that for the happiness of all concerned that our Negro families are happiest when they live in their same communities". (Hansberry 407). It basically states that Mr. Linder was trying to convince them not to live in their neighborhood because they didn't fit the description of that community. This is an example of how they are not accepted by white society. Being financially stable allows you to have a better lifestyle, gain the respect of others and gain power. By being financially stable you can live better because you never have to worry about how you will eat, all your bills will be paid and maybe one day you could own your own business. This relates to the story "A Raisin in the Sun" because
