Dr. Thomas Stockmann: hero or enemy? Dr. Thomas Stockmann is the medical officer of the Spa in the comedy ''The Enemy of the People'' by Henrik Iben; and the brother of the Burgomaster (mayor) of the town. Jovial by nature, the doctor enjoys the company of "bright, cheerful, freedom-loving young people" who share his idealism and ability to think freely. Over the course of the show, Stockman is shown to be a conscientious person and a caring father. the strongest character in this play with the most powerful motivation, which is the truth and only that. Dr. Stockmann is determined to reveal to the public the health problems they are experiencing due to contaminated toilets, and he is sure that they will thank him for it and name him a hero for caring about their well-being. The doctor makes excessive efforts to publicize the fact and will not change his position of protecting the general public, even if it is against the wishes of the mayor, his brother and the authorities. Will the truth triumph over lies and an individual's will to resist? dealing with corrupt bureaucrats? Stockmann courageously decides to fight but does not realize the weight of the undertaking he is undertaking. His discovery that could lead him to be the hero of the city could also make him the "enemy of the people", if not Don't treat the matter with the utmost care. The design of the baths was initially drawn up by Dr. Stockmann. When the Burgomaster and the Municipality became involved, the doctor's plans were not followed and in fact the Burgomaster insisted that the baths and pipes be placed exactly in their current location. The doctor became suspicious about the bathroom problems when he saw several sick patients. On his own initiative, he analyzes the water and discovers that the bathrooms, which provide much of the water for the town's livelihood, are contaminated and have become a "pestiferous hole", due to the faulty laying of the water pipes he turns to the Burgomaster, who is also President of the Spa Committee. Report the contamination and insist that the tubes be reseated correctly. He threatens to have his article about the spa printed in the local newspaper if corrective action is not taken immediately. The Burgomaster insists that re-piping is out of the question due to the costs.
