Topic > Argumentative Essay on Abortion - 1014

The United States does not count unborn children in its census; they are counted as people once they are born. In the court case Roe v. Wade it was stated that “the word “person,” as used in the Fourteenth Amendment [of the United States Constitution], does not include the unborn child.” Age officially begins when you leave the womb, not when you are conceived. Neglecting to give women the power to choose what to do with their bodies is stripping them of their rights. Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor, in Planned Parenthood v. Casey, wrote: "Women's ability to participate equally in the economic and social life of the nation has been facilitated by their ability to control their own reproductive lives." Denying the choice between abortion would not only be immoral, but would also constitute a direct violation of their constitutional provisions.
