The abortion debate Abortion is a form of murder and diminishes the value of human life. Other contraceptive methods are readily available; therefore, abortion should not be a form of birth control. The social contribution of a potentially valuable human being is swept away. Women who miscarry often suffer severe psychological damage from the experience along with, in some cases, the baby's father. Advances in genetic testing may lead to more abortions (to avoid having a non-ideal child). There are many couples who spend years on a waiting list trying to adopt a child. The decision to have an abortion is often made by minors or young adults, who lack the maturity and life experience to make good decisions. There is no doubt that some women suffer psychological harm as a result of abortion; however, the harm done by giving a child up for adoption is much worse. Abortion is not murder because it is performed before a fetus has developed into a human person. A fetus does not become a true human being until it is physically released from the womb. If you define a fetus as a human being, will you go back and say that a sperm or an egg is a human being? We should ban birth control altogether, as we would be killing a “human"."?
