Are you ready for some football? From the dawn of history to the present day, sport has always been an important part of society. It teaches discipline, how to be a team player, how to interact with others and is a good source of physical activity. Specifically, soccer utilizes all of these aspects of the sport and is a great source for teaching self-control and perseverance. Some may say that football is a violent sport or that it brings no benefits, but in reality it provides a person with the basic tools needed not only to play, but also to interact with people in society. The first game process comes into play football. It's actually very easy to get involved because there are various soccer programs offered to both children and teenagers. To commit to football you must have will and dedication due to the amount of time football consumes through training, meetings and matches. People who initially begin to engage in soccer usually start early in life, usually around age nine or ten in peewee soccer and last until age thirteen. Even at this early stage of peewee, soccer is very challenging due to the time involved. This involvement usually occurs by the child's choice due to interest in football and parents usually do not force their children to play. Involvement in peewee soccer is due to the fact that children have much more time to play than young adults. Soccer is also financially feasible for most families because it is relatively inexpensive, so there is no limit to who can play based on the amount of money their parents earn. The team provides the equipment, except for the spikes and jersey. The total cost to play soccer is usually around $60.00. Usually at the peewee level, you have 1-2 practices a week and a game every week. Also in peewee you have team meetings to discuss defensive and offensive strategy and sometimes just to bond with your teammates. This usually happens once a week. Continued involvement in soccer occurs at the high school level because it is the program most easily accessible to adolescents. A teenager usually continues to play football in high school if he enjoys playing or if he really excels at the peewee level. The great thing about playing... middle of paper... I wasn't a great player at school. The new involvement came pretty quickly for me because a short year later, this year in fact, I was asked to be a coach for a local high school team. I was honored by the offer and naturally took the opportunity. The fact that my dad was the coach probably had something to do with it, but I was just excited to get back on the football field again, even if it wasn't me playing. With this coaching position I have experienced many new relationships. From meeting a completely new group of players to other coaches it has been a learning experience and I have already built new friendships that I know will last a long time. But the most important relationship that I believe I have built through this experience is a better relationship with my father. We have had our differences in the past, but thanks to football we have been closer than we have ever been before. Football has shown me that it is worth it. It taught me, among other things, dedication, determination, teamwork. Football has given me the identity of being part of the team and the friendships I will have for life, especially with the person who means the most to me... my father.
