In today's modern society, alcohol addiction and abuse have become one of the most complex and life-threatening problems. Most of the depressed people usually indulge in bars or pubs with their alcohol to escape their stressful life. It has become increasingly alarming that alcohol nowadays attracts not only adults, but also teenagers. “Research has shown that approximately 14 million Americans (7.4%) of the population meet the diagnostic criteria for alcohol abuse or alcoholism” (“Alcohol Facts”). Drug addicts may experience a social impact such as loss of respect from others who may view the problem as self-inflicted and easily avoidable. Repeated use of alcohol over a period of time can lead to alcohol abuse. Millions of people like to drink from time to time. When drinking becomes routine, people become addicted to alcohol. Alcohol addiction has enormous and somewhat fatal consequences on humans. It has, directly or otherwise, an impact on the individual, family, friends and society. Anyone could become a lifelong drinker if they lack self-control. Haring states that "If people drink to relax or have fun, to escape from responsibilities and pressures, to relax to feel more sociable and accepted, or to relieve the distress of low self-esteem, they are at greater risk of abusing alcohol than people who rarely drink" (21). Once an individual has become an alcoholic, it has become a daunting task for him to put an end to this particular habit and it is in his best interest not to procrastinate further.
