Throughout American history there are particular events and images that have deeply ingrained our collective consciousness, the Navy battleships sinking at Pearl Harbor, the bombs falling about Hiroshima, the Marines raising the flag at Iwo-Jima, the assassination of President Kennedy, the first man to set foot on the surface of the Moon during Apollo 11, and Ronald Reagan calling on the Soviets to "tear down this wall" . Some images can never be forgotten and the events of September 11, 2001 were one of those days. That day the United States was attacked by Islamic radicals funded and trained by a foreign dictatorship. These spineless men were protected by a ruthless regime, and the plan was carried out by cutthroats with enough cunning to order mass murder and destruction, but without the courage to emerge from their tunnels to do so. More than 3,000 people died or disappeared in the ashes, and countless other lives were devastated. Two thousand children lost a parent that day and we will never forget the images or videos of planes flying into the World Trade Center or smoke rising from the Pentagon! We will never forget the courage and compassion of the men and women who rushed into burning buildings to save innocent people or those victims who died in a Pennsylvania field on a sunny morning. That said, this is not the purpose of my writing. I do not write this article as a man seeking to commemorate these horrific events or the heroes who so bravely lived and died defending our people of this country. I write this as a man who was as baffled as any other person who watched events unfold. Since then the sadness and anguish experienced that day have transformed into passion and determination to find out what all that controversy was about, to find out what really happened and why there are so many deceptions.
