Verses of reality DaydreamsMathilde and Loisel married in an era in which individuals were united more by financial situation than by love. Mathilde came from a poor family and daydreamed that she was destined for something more in life, including marriage. Guy De Maupassant, the author of "The Necklace" describes a relationship between two people with different dreams and how desires can alter your life. Distinguishing between reality and dreams can bring relationships closer with mutual respect. Matlide dreamed of luxury, recognition and glamor at a young age. When she married Loisel, Matlide believed she had settled for a lifestyle instead of receiving what she deserved, fancy mansions, servants and glamorous clothes. This alone has put a strain on a new relationship. Mathlide daydreamed every day of a better life without looking at what was in front of her and how lucky she already was. Loisel, was a man in love who wanted nothing more than to see his wife happy, but did not understand her daydreams because he was happy with their current lifestyle. The communication link between Loisel and Mathlide is missing in relation to different aspects of how their lifestyle should be or wanted to be. Loisel knew that Mathilde was unhappy and withdrawn noting that she took no interest in their home or even idle conversations. Mathilde dreamed all day about a better life and these dreams did not include Loisel. Loisel, being a thoughtful man and wanting to see his wife happy, worked hard to get tickets to a dinner dance. When he presented these tickets to Mathilde, she surprised him with her response and reaction: “She looked at him angrily and said impatiently: “What do you want me to wear to go there?” ” (par.14). Mathilde uses this situation to manipulate Loisel's feelings for her so that she could experience a part of her daydream, if only for one night. Mathilde's concerns were not what her husband he was trying to do for her but for himself, being a man who loved his wife he offered to give her money for an evening dress Now this money came from him saving for a gun, which shows how much Loisel wanted it make his wife happy.
