I chose to write about the story "A&P". The story is set in a small town in the late 1960s, a sort of vacation town with a general store and a few residents. What I got from the setting was a very low maintenance town where "everyone knows everyone" (close-knit community) most likely with old school beliefs and structures (religion, dress code, ethics, morals, ext...strict ) and for a short time tourists come to live for a while, and they kind of shake the foundations of the city a little with their external beliefs and values. Well, Sammy, the main character, is nineteen years old and has or had, as I should say after reading the story, a job as a cashier at the local A&P. (Alexadrov and Petrooshki Tea Company) When one day all hell breaks loose as three scantily clad young women enter the store to buy fancy herring in pure sour cream - 49 cents, which is another great indication of the times, of the prices of goods and also what people bought. During this time "Stokesie" is introduced to us as the other cashier who is three years older than Sammy. (22) Well Sammy and Stokesie are overcome with emotions as soon as they lay eyes on these women. Which I understand what it's like to be a boy/man and live in a kind of small town too, where you know all the girls and they're busy or you're just not interested. Then suddenly one random day a beautiful woman walks in at work/school/party that no one has ever seen before and your thoughts start spinning around your head and your heart rate goes up a little. All you can think about is “Wow, I need to talk to her.” Sometimes we (men) think as we read in the story: "Stokesie is married, with two children already marked on his head... in the middle of the paper... tells this story because I saw many of the same emotions and events in my life, but also many unfortunate mistakes by characters that left me scratching my head and wondering "How can you be so stupid and deny how one event leads to another, and see how careless your actions are ?" The story ends with Sammy who realizes how his life will change: "My stomach tightened when I heard how hard the world would be for me from here on out." To those who read the story Sammy came to terms with his reckless actions with understanding Let's just hope he doesn't make any of the mistakes he made on that fateful day when three women whose names he didn't know, mind you, changed his life, without either of them knowing, for a while. what I imagine is a nice some time. Look what you women are doing!
