Although Kant's beliefs arose during the 1700s, while Nietzsche's ideas emerged more than a hundred years later, they have been found to have very similar characteristics in the way they see the world. There are many similarities and differences between Kant's experience of the sublime in the Critique of Judgment - The Analytics of the Sublime and Nietzsche's account of the Dionysian dimension of art in The Birth of Tragedy. Immanuel Kant wrote many important literary works that have influenced other great philosophers of our time. One of these includes The Critique of Judgment – ​​The Analytics of the Sublime in which Kant goes into detail about what exactly the sublime means, how we encounter it, and when we are experiencing it. To support his point and make it easier to understand, he provides examples that make it clear. Kant presents the image of a very large building or a storm and connects them to the sublime because their masses are so large that they overwhelm our senses and make it difficult for our minds to comprehend their quantity. With this overload of emotions, the sublime brings with it the opposing feelings of fear and pleasure. Fear arises from anxiety… in the middle of the paper… in the music. Reason is the drive to the sublime and emotions play an important role in the Dionysian. There is a judgment behind encountering the sublime that elicits more serious emotions rather than being light-hearted and withholding judgment. The drive behind achieving the sublime is to understand the impossible while the desire for ecstasy is the motive behind Dionysian. Kant and Nietzsche were some of the greatest philosophers who ever lived and their writings expressing their theories will forever be taught and questioned. Both explained that one must be receptive to these transcendental ideas to fully understand what they are trying to explain in the writings of Kant and Nietzsche. Both philosophers write about comparable things even though their ideas are original and they discuss different theories.
