Religion has been a central driving force in the world for much of history. There are many different religions that exist in the world today. In order for these religions to coexist peacefully, it is important to be educated about any religion that may be foreign. One of the best ways to achieve this is to attend a church service for a religion you may not be familiar with. For my visit to the religious site I knew I wanted to visit a grand place, so I decided to visit St. Patrick's Cathedral in Midtown. I have long wanted to visit this huge and majestic building many times when passing through these parts, but until now I had never had the opportunity. Now I could go there as a student trying to delve deeper into the Christian tradition. I visited the Cathedral on 30 March 2014 for the 12pm mass. It was a relatively easy commute as the church is located at 50th Street and 5th Avenue in midtown Manhattan. When I arrived, it wasn't difficult to locate the church as it was under renovation at the time. The external appearance of the Cathedral was still majestic. There were many arches that had the appearance of a Gothic style. The interior of the building is also being renovated as there is scaffolding around the marble pillars. These pillars are enormous and extend 330 feet into the ceiling. These majestic features have long contributed to the church's legacy. This is one of the many reasons why St. Patrick's Cathedral receives many tourists every day. The church organizers know this, so they have established a system for both churchgoers and tourists. When you enter the building during church time, one of the many security guards available at that time may ask you if you... middle of paper... He explained that he was allowing Jesus Christ into your body and incorporate God into your mind. I finally asked the man what his place in religion was. He replied that when he worships God, he feels a sense of righteousness. He told me it was about being at peace with yourself and being at peace with the world. At the end of the service I reflected on what I had seen and heard. I was happy with my decision to come to St. Patrick's Cathedral. During my time there I had learned a lot about the religion of Christianity. Many things were also explained to me that I didn't know before. While I will remain a devout Muslim, it was an eye-opening experience to be able to learn more about a religion that has existed in the world for thousands of years and understand why many people in the world today call themselves Christians..
