"We call them stupid animals, and they are, because they can't tell us how they feel, but they don't suffer any less because they have no words." Sewelle, Anna. Black Beauty.(2000)Over the course of evolution, both the animal and human species have evolved; humans also ironically take shape from prehistoric animals. As our bodies and minds evolved, we separated from each other in this so-called hierarchical chain. The human species, once hunters similar to Paleolithic animals, has now assumed the dominant role on this planet. Inevitably there are obstacles such as disease and pollution that we cannot overcome in this historical period; diseases and colds are the sole cause of death of almost a quarter of life forms on this planet. JBS Haldanes, "Some Enemies of Science" (1928) Persuades readers to provide emotional, rather than ethical, responses regarding the ongoing struggle for the right to use animals for medical and physiological research (pp 225-230). Regarding Mr. Haldanes' position on the subject, that rules and regulations must be compiled for animal experimentation, "anti vivisectionists who are against all painful or possible painful experiments" (1 p 227) which apparently have no results for science as well as the lies about the pain and suffering of animals stated by antivivisectionists need to be clarified and made understandable. These laws and accusations must be allowed and told truthfully in order for us as a people to succeed in science. JBS Haldane's work on the science has sparked many controversial discussions with animal rights and anti-vivisectionists regarding the fight against animal testing. In many countries today, as in England in 1928, the process of obtaining permission for animal testing is a long and horrendous procedure. In 1928, according to the British law code, "scientists had to obtain a license for practically painless experiments" that can only be carried out in a small number of scientific laboratories. (2 p 226) Today in North America and England, dozens of laws are enacted regarding the use of animals, especially the type of animal and the type of scientific experiment. Due to these increasing animal rights laws and the large number of anti-vivisectionist protests, scientists are being excluded from a large field of science. Probably, if these rules are not reduced and procedures are kept at the medium or minimum level, the science regarding diseases; that saves lives, will therefore be left behind as we move forward into the future.
