Topic > Performance of Urban Schools Compared to Suburban Schools

Students who attend urban schools are not afforded the same opportunities as a child their age who attends a suburban school. Students who attend urban schools are at a disadvantage compared to students who attend suburban schools. As a pre-service teacher, it is my responsibility to work to correct this injustice and inform the surrounding community. As we examine this injustice we see how there are many solutions to this problem and that the government and people need to be educated on this problem. There are some who are against change or don't feel it's necessary to fight the education system even though their children might be affected. Through my research I have found information to support my view of helping improve our education system in the United States, but I have been unable to find any research or academic articles that agree with the current education agenda. This social injustice within our nation's education program is an issue that concerns many people, but society or government has not addressed it. People need to be informed because in our Constitution everyone has the right to free public education and we should not give one district an advantage over another. “The Constitution requires that all children be given equal educational opportunities, regardless of their race, ethnicity, religion, or sex, or whether they are rich or poor, citizens or noncitizens” (American Civil Liberties Union “ACLU”, 2003). Even if you are in this country illegally, you have the right to attend public school. Every student attending school anywhere in the United States should be given the same level of education. If students were to go to school in California and transferred to another school… midway through the paper… there would be little the school could do to purchase the proper supplies for their students. This problem leaves students in urban schools at a disadvantage compared to students who attend a suburban school. Works Cited American Civil Liberties Union.
