Topic > Capital Punishment: The Only True Justice - 1599

Justice will not be possible until the capital punishment debate is resolved and all states have come to an agreement that the death penalty is the best way to completely stop crime." is that one method of execution is just as brutal and barbaric as the next," says Breedlove of the National Coalition to Abolish the Death Penalty. This is straight from the mouth of a member of a national anti-capital punishment organization. The American Heritage(r) Dictionary of the English Language, third edition defines execution as the act or petition of putting to death or being put to death as a lawful punishment. So if Breedlove's words are true, then what he believes is that someone going out and killing someone is barbaric. In a sense that's not what he's saying, that one way of killing someone is just as harmful as any other. So if he thinks this is so barbaric, why doesn't he do something about it? Many people who are against capital punishment only think about the criminal and how cruel it is to them. But shouldn't we think about the families that are now being torn apart due to the ruthless acts of these criminals? Think of Susan Smith, how she knowingly drove her car into a lake with her two children strapped into the seats. Think about how they must have felt when cold water began to fill the interior of the car, and then drowned them. Barbaric is exactly the word I would use to describe his actions. However, the jury rejected the death penalty and instead chose life imprisonment. Mr Smith, the father of the two children, separated by the sentence, said: "My family and I are disappointed that the death penalty was not the verdict, but it was not our choice. They gave a verdict that they thought... .... half of the paper ......If anything, the death penalty will never bring back the loved ones who lost them they have been taken in cold blood. Capital punishment must be the standard that every state must hold itself to. If we cannot unite and defeat crime, it will surely take over us We can no longer sit back and watch criminals be released and then kill again. We must no longer live our lives in fear. We must unite and draw a line under crime a world without the fear of being senselessly killed or losing our loved ones. For a cold-blooded killer, capital punishment is the only true justice.
