The US Constitution is sacred in that it has not changed in hundreds of years, but it has come to our attention that some amendments are obsolete. The Second Amendment states that everyone has the right to bear arms, which sounds right and fair, but we live in a very different time than our fathers who wrote the Constitution. We have serious problems with firearms today because they are so easy to obtain and many abuse the power of such a dangerous weapon. It has always been American culture that owning a gun as a tool for home self-defense is considered the norm. Numerous cases of mass shootings have led some people to call for stricter gun regulations or even bans entirely. However, it would be illegal for the United States government to ban firearms, as required by the Constitution. It would seem “un-American” for a man not to have the right to buy a gun if he wanted to. It is also difficult to make changes to gun laws, due to the National Rifle Association. It is an incredibly powerful organization that represents gun owners' rights. It is also known as one of the most influential lobbying groups in Washington. To enact stricter gun laws, the government should first review them. “[The NRA] has the ability to recruit and fund competitors to politicians who don’t listen to them. Legislators enjoy their jobs and most try to keep it for life” (Culhane, 2015, p.2). The NRA has many wealthy members and is corrupt. Whenever Congress tries to restrict gun rights, the NRA will financially aid any campaign to defeat them. Even though most people in America want to change gun laws, they are not as strong as the NRA. The NRA strongly supports America's gun culture. Therefore, any suggestions that disadvantage gun rights will be stifled
