For my personal trip I chose to go to the bench near the SGU pier. I went around 7:30 so that it wouldn't be too hot although the nearby sea grapes (Coccoloba uvifera) would shade me. I also decided to go on a Saturday so that there wouldn't be many cars to disturb my exploration. I chose this area because it is one of my favorite places on campus. It became my favorite place almost two years ago; as it was on the pier where I saw my first shooting star. Before this trip I had never sat on this bench, plus I hadn't visited the pier in about a year due to my busy schedule. I also made sure to coat myself in insect repellent because I know from experience how brutal the mosquitoes and sandflies can be at the dock. My initial observations included noting how clear it was, how sandy the bench was due to the strong breeze blowing across the sand – the breeze was so strong I even got sand in my eyes. The breeze that morning was particularly cold, then I realized why when a sudden downpour fell – luckily I had an umbrella otherwise I would have been soaked. From where I sat I could also see some dark spots in the sea; I know from class that those are patches of sea grass. I also noticed a bundle of leaves wrapped in the waves. I also noticed two artificial structures; the first was a small retaining wall made of black rocks and wire and the second was a series of buoys that sat in the sea near the pier. I also noticed that there were some dogs on the nearby cliff barking quite loudly, but I managed to ignore them. The next segment of the outing included “sensory connection” where I closed my eyes for about four minutes to “get it.” all inclusive." It is said that when you close your eyes, all the other... middle of paper...... 'cigarette bin' will be there in the near future. If this area were to be destroyed, I know for a fact that a large number of students, including myself, would be devastated – not only from a conservation point of view but also from a personal point of view as this area can be considered almost an “escape ” ideal place when you are stressed because everyone knows how relaxing the sea can be. I can say that I thoroughly enjoyed this personal field trip as it renewed my love for this part of the SGU campus. Whenever I stop by here during the week it's always because I'm on my way to class at the Maritime Station or I'm rushing to another class, so I was very grateful for this brief moment of relaxation and renewed appreciation for one of my favorite places. It's in our nature as humans to take things for granted, especially because I pass by the bench so often and can't take in all the beauty that surrounds me.
