Hunted or killed tigers are drastically decreasing their population. This species may not be here for long. Some tigers live in reserves to help their population increase. Tigers are very active and love to bathe. Tigers are wonderful animals, yet their habitats are becoming isolated; therefore, there will be no more tigers. Surprisingly, the largest member of the cat family is the tiger ("Basic" par.1). The Defenders.org website states: “They sport long, thick reddish coats with white bellies and black and white hair. Black tails. Their heads, bodies, tails and limbs have narrow black, brown or gray stripes. (“Basic” par.1). The Encyclopedia Britannica states: “The Bengal, Indochina and Sumatran tigers are of a bright reddish colour, beautifully marked with dark, almost black vertical stripes. The lower parts, the inner sides of the limbs, the cheeks and the large spot above each eye are whitish. The rare Siberian tiger has longer, softer and lighter fur. White tigers have occurred from time to time, not all of which are true albinos, almost all of which have been black reported less frequently in the dense forest of Myanmar (Buram), Bangladesh and eastern India.”(Tiger”Britannica par.2). Male tigers are the largest subspecies, sometimes weighing 660 pounds, and females ( smaller subspecies) weigh about 310 pounds. Females are lighter than males (“Tiger”World par.4). Defenders.org states: "There once existed nine subspecies of tigers: Bengal, Siberian, Indochinese, South Chinese, Sumatran, Malyan, Caspian, Juvan and Bail. Of these, the last three are extinct, one is extinct in the wild, and the rest are in danger.” (“Basic” par.1). Furthermore, a tiger's gestation lasts 103 days.
