Recently, a customer at the Heart Attack Grill in Las Vegas suffered a sudden heart attack while eating a 6,000 calorie “Triple Bypass Burger”. In the restaurant the staff are portrayed as doctors and nurses. The owner, Jon Basso, argues that no one should be telling them how to eat, especially government organizations ("Heart Attack Restaurant Owner Defends His Restaurant"). However, episodes like these should help us become aware of the serious consequences that derive from these choices. The question of whether we should allow an external source to regulate or influence personal dietary choices has recently been a hotly debated topic around the world. It is an important question because it concerns the foundations of moral and economic questions about how the government has informed and protected people. Various arguments have been put forward on this issue. The fast food industry, since its inception in the 1950s, has grown to become a powerful and sometimes unregulated entity; subsequently, its cheap food products that most Americans enjoy are the reason it is causing medical problems and increasing obesity rates. Often people do not have enough money or time available, so they look for other alternatives that can solve this problem. Due to the national recession, fast food companies are lowering food prices and marketing more food at a lower price. It has gotten to the point where people can't afford to buy healthy groceries; therefore, they end up buying what seems reasonable. Sensibly it's just a shortcut through the drive-thru of a fast food restaurant. Furthermore, rising food prices are one of the many responsible effects that make it difficult to purchase food. For example, a... half sheet... from the truth. Our society can no longer suffer such dramatic medical problems that are producing unnecessary consequences for citizens. If government officials continue to be part of this devastating truth, people's bodies will not tolerate this inhumane act. Many more people would be aware of this if only they were informed. It was an eye-opening experience to take off the blindfold myself and open my eyes to a real nightmare. What has our world come to? Works CitedFood, Inc. Director Robert Kenner. Perf.
