Dating back to the 1700s, nursing was a profession that included only women and the home was “the center of health care.” Where as now, the number of men in this profession continues to increase and almost all nursing care takes place in other facilities such as hospitals, clinics and nursing homes. Furthermore, nursing has never been seen as a respectable profession. It took until after the Civil War for people to have more respect for the profession (Evolution of Nursing, 2014). Nursing is constantly evolving and expanding. According to John Hopkins, the future of nursing centers revolves around four themes; “improving and increasing nursing education, supporting nurses in practice to the fullest extent of their education and training, creating a culture and systems in which nurses act as full partners with other healthcare professionals, and collecting better data on the nursing workforce ” (Brooks, 2011) . Over the years, collaboration has become much more widespread and results in fewer errors and redundancies. As the years go by, it will continue to grow. Additionally, education is becoming a very important aspect of nursing. In most workplaces you need a college degree to get hired, whereas in the past this didn't matter. Personally, I know I will pursue my nursing degree and hopefully continue with my own
