Acculturation, worldview, and perceived discrimination as cultural variables influence the professional behaviors of racial/ethnic minorities. Multicultural education and diversity appreciation training are believed to reduce counselor bias. Theme four examines multicultural issues that require counselors to incorporate cultural data into their thinking and actions. Multicultural competence includes learning how to include cultural data in the decision-making process of complex problems and interventions posed by culturally diverse clients. Theme five assumes that people have multiple identities that influence how they experience and see the world. Multiple identities are used to refer to variables such as gender, age, socioeconomic status, nationality, and ethnicity that impact an individual's behavior, perception, and perception.
