Today, according to most people, it is considered one of the most popular and sought-after drugs in the world. The only problem here is that it is illegal in the United States of America, which has led to numerous social, economic, and political issues. An example of these problems would be states going against the federal government and legalizing marijuana within state borders. Marijuana has been used as an agent to achieve euphoria since ancient times. The main purposes were prescribed for various conditions including labor pain, nausea and rheumatism. It was also used as an intoxicant and was also common from the 1850s to the 1930s. Today it is considered a gateway drug, meaning it is used to connect you to other drugs. The other uses were mainly pure consumption. Marijuana has spread across the nation, becoming one of the most commonly used drugs in the world today. The 60s and 70s used this drug as a symbol of the "hippie" generation and of disobedience for users. In these years they also called this drug a Schedule I drug. It was called that because it had the highest potential for abuse and no medical use for its purposes. With the advent of the 1990s, the drug declined considerably, being used mainly by teenagers.
