Topic > Health Care Crisis - 1192

Health care is one of the biggest problems facing America today. Health insurance companies are destroying the American healthcare system by raising premiums and deductibles. A big concern is that access to healthcare is definitely in decline. In 2007, more than 75 million adults – 42 percent of all adults aged 19 to 64 – were uninsured or underinsured (Commonwealth Fund Commission 9). The healthcare system in America needs a complete overhaul and reform. Healthcare reform is a complex issue, made up of many aspects that only healthcare professionals understand. The two main goals that health care reform is trying to achieve are: • Provide health insurance to all uninsured Americans • Decrease the cost of health care services and coverage Health care reform has been on every Democratic president's agenda for the past 20 years. In 1993, President Clinton's proposal to try to reform health care failed miserably. In 2008, presidential candidate Hillary Clinton campaigned vigorously on this issue. Now, President Obama is trying to get Congress to pass his health care reform bill. Quality of Care vs. Cost of Care Most Americans would say we have access to the best that medicine has to offer. At best, this is true. American doctors are among the best in the world. The technology available today is far superior to that of decades before, so their knowledge of diseases and possible treatments is excellent. The problem is that the system has evolved to a level where the balance between cost and access is at an all-time low. This means that uninsured Americans cannot access this excellence, and underinsured Americans cannot afford to access it. America is in last place out of 19... middle of the paper... I'm sure there is an exact way to solve this whole problem. Let's hope for our sake that the government can present a healthcare reform bill that solves at least some of the problems. This way every American can have adequate healthcare in the future. Works cited by the CDC Commission. CDC Chronic Disease Overview. December 17, 2009. March 9, 2010.
