Notes personality standards of the times and how women were expected to fit the maternal mold. The author explains that Gilman's work, The Yellow Wallpaper, was written as an act of rebellion against the way women were treated at the time. Quawas believes that the reason women went crazy during this time was because they were women and were seen as second best in a world dominated by men. Even if that were the case, many women would have shown their defiance by living outside of these guidelines. In a way, this made them look sick, subjecting them to confinement until they succumbed to society's guidelines. This source will be useful to me because I will be expressing many of the same opinions as Quawas and will be able to use his words to validate my own
