Experience and knowledge • A good general level of education; A college degree or administrative qualifications would be desirable. I have a law degree from the London School of Economics and Political Science. I achieved top marks in the lower second class, however, as a mature student, I subsidized my studies through part-time employment in a legal administration and hospitality role, sometimes working up to 32 hours a week during term time. Although my employment had negative effects on my overall academic performance, managing my studies at a prestigious university while simultaneously working professionally required strong organizational and time management skills and considerable flexibility. In this way I gained valuable practical experience and skills that will be useful in any future career. • An interest in higher education and in particular an understanding of Oxford University and its aims in teaching and research. I moved to Oxford in September 2009 together with my partner who is the first MPhil Student of the Year in the Department of Russian and East European Studies and asp...... middle of paper .... .. spreadsheets, mail handling and mail merge preparation, responding to customer inquiries, and other general administrative tasks. Attitudes • Considerable tact and discretion are required in dealing with highly confidential information matters and initiative in managing the day-to-day operations of the office and in dealing with busy colleagues across the University. As stated previously, during my legal experience and particularly while working in the judiciary, I have dealt with a number of highly sensitive matters, including divorce and child custody proceedings. Therefore confidentiality was paramount and any breach would result in disciplinary action. Equally, when dealing with these issues and when representing retired miners in their occupational disease compensation claims, I have had to take a compassionate approach whilst maintaining professionalism..
