Humpback Whales Humpback whales are extraordinary mammals and go through many extraordinary things to survive. There are many whales in the ocean, but the whales found in Hawaiian culture areas have many difficulties, and most people don't understand why. Humpback whales have the scientific name Megaptera Novaeangliae, that species of mysticete is one of the largest species, and adults range in length from twelve to sixteen meters, or thirty to fifty-two feet. They weigh approximately seventy-nine thousand pounds (pounds) and have a distinctive body shape. These whales get their name from the way they emerge into the air and display their rear dorsal fin. this happens right before it starts moving its flukes, the flukes are the tail fins. Many people first identify a whale based on its flukes. (which is another name for its tail fins). they say hump in their name, but the hump they see is actually a forty-nine foot back rolling into a sixty thousand pound dive into the water. “Humpback whales most likely sing to communicate with other whales and to attract potential mates, National Geographic, page 6.” Humpback whales grow strange things on their body like hair, these large mammals have whiskers like cats and other animals. The first thing people see is the bump where hair grows. Scientists say they have these sensations like cats and other creatures do. Another interesting fact about this animal is that scientists have found out the age of stranded whales and those that were killed. Marine biologists can determine the age of these whales by their teeth. When they find a dead whale or kill a whale, marine biologists can also look inside the ear and observe the different layers of earwax... in the center of the paper... the fins of the ail allow the whales to push themselves through the water, if necessary. The effects of global warming affect marine animals much more than you might think. Rising sea levels make whales vulnerable and they may not be able to adapt quickly enough to survive. As you can see, whales are in this world for a reason, every living thing has a purpose. Even if we use these whales to produce wax for candles to eat on our table. There are not many humpback whales in the ocean and their population is limited due to deaths. Everyone needs to do their part in the world and make it easier to understand that we need them more than we thought. Their way of life and what they accomplished in that period of life is extraordinary. Their migration and communication are so courageous. Humpback whales are what I would call a creation worth having on earth.
