Winston wanted to plant seeds of rebellion across generations while Julia preferred to have immediate satisfaction. An example of how they are so different is when Winston explains how they will eventually be captured and killed by the thought police, and notes that “in a way she realizes that she herself is doomed, that sooner or later the thought police will 'she would take and kill, but with another part of her mind she believed that it was somehow possible to build a secret world in which one could live as one chooses' (Orwell). Julia congested the thought of death and gave priority to the thought of sneaking around the party forever, however. Winston is the complete opposite, which shows how little they know each other. Another example is when Winston mentions how he had concrete proof of the party's lies and how he regrets throwing them away in the next one. generation, dear. I am interested in us" (Orwell). This shows how radically different Julia and Winston are. It is also clear that Julia does not want change as much as Winston because when he reads Goldstein's book to her “Julia, a rebel only from the waist down, falls asleep” (Knapp). This shows how little Julia cares about taking a real stand against Big Brother and the party, unlike Winston. They share two different points of view
