ArgumentativeBreastfeeding is bestIf one chooses to have a child, shouldn't one be obligated to do what is best for that child? There are many important choices to make for that child, and some may be more difficult than others. Should I give birth in hospital or at home? Cuddles or hugs? Cot or family bed? But when it comes to nutrition, the choice is clear. Breastfeeding is the best choice mothers can make for themselves and their baby. Not everyone agrees that breastfeeding is the best choice. Some argue that bottle feeding is democratic and gives other family members the opportunity to breastfeed the baby. I agree that family members need the chance to experience the thrill of nurturing new life, but giving the baby a bottle of formula isn't necessary. The mother can express breast milk and put it in a bottle when other family members want to breastfeed the baby. Most new moms are eager to get back to their pre-pregnancy weight. Some may choose to formula feed so they can stop eating for two and maybe even go on a diet, which is impossible for a breastfeeding mother. On the other hand, a woman who produces milk consumes between 1,000 and 3,500 calories more per day than at other times in her life (Lim 63). With all the extra calories burned, you may not need to diet to reach your desired weight (Eisenberg, Murkoff, and Hathaway 7).
