John Connolly is a modern mystery author who uses images, tragic events and characterization to draw the reader into his mysteries. John Connolly is originally from Dublin, Ireland, where he was born in 1968. For the most part, he chooses to keep his personal life and information about his childhood and adolescence. His assistant, Clair Lamb, helped patch up some holes in John Connolly's life story. Connolly had only one brother and his father is not deceased. (Agnello, 2014). However, his mother, who is in her eighties, is still active, despite her age. (Lamb, 2014) After high school, Connolly furthered his education by studying English at Trinity College. While studying at Trinity College, he received a student visa that allowed him to travel to the United States. (Nolan, 2002). The first place he went was Delaware for a summer job. (Nolan, 2002). Shortly after arriving, Connolly discovered his displeasure with the place and left as soon as possible. (Nolan, 2002). Connolly found his way to Maine, and Main found its way into his heart. Much like author Stephen King, the forests of Maine stimulated Connolly's imagination and provided the setting for many of his novels. (Nolan, 2002) After studying at Trinity College, Connolly went on to study journalism at Dublin City University. Throughout his life Connolly experimented with different career paths such as journalism, politics, waiter, bartender, and menial work in a department store located in London, England, called Harrods. Gaining real-world experience gave Connolly deeper insight into potential characters in his novels.
