Every American has the constitutional right to defend himself and obtain possession of any type of handgun, if he chooses to do so. However, some may feel that this is an outdated method of self-protection or hobbyists such as congress and anti-gun activists who believe that it is not necessary for a civilian to own firearms. However, in recent years there has been an ongoing war between the NRA (National Riffle Association) and congress to limit or ban the use or possession of firearms. Some people think that disarming society will limit deadly altercations and the casualties of innocent people. (If there were more here) Everyone has the right to own a gun whether for protection or as a hobby and Congress has no right to alter and create new laws that would threaten a person's rights and ownership decision. Society has become more dangerous over the years. According to the New York Times article "Just Take Their Guns Away", written by John Q Wilson, the author states that congress is trying to pass a law that would prohibit or limit the use of handguns and other firearms , and he thinks doing so will limit deadly altercations between civilians. Furthermore Wilson argues that this will actually do no such thing and will only make things worse and that there is a solution. It also states that by allowing police and law enforcement to have the authority to search anyone they believe may be unlawfully carrying a weapon and to have the right to confiscate any weapon that does not have the proper credentials and the person carrying it will be subject to adequate action sanctions. Wilson also claims that allowing only “law-abiding” citizens to carry firearms will limit the number of gang-related robberies and shootings. Furthermore, he also... midway through the paper... finds a way to get something that was taken away from him by congress. However, inventing a higher technical object that authorities can use to scan someone who may be breaking the law or illegally carrying a firearm will actually prevent a robbery or more violent crime and save lives. Furthermore, by passing a new law authorizing law enforcement to search anyone, we will set the example that anyone found with an unlicensed firearm is subject to jail time and a fine. There will also be fewer robberies, home invasions and deadly violence, and society will be safer. While some innocent people may be subject to searches to ensure they follow the rules, the outcome of public safety will be the greater outcome. Works citedWilson, James Q.
