The Wolf of Wall Street is based on the life and also the author, Jordan Belfort. Jordan becomes dissatisfied with his daily life and realizes his talent in selling. As he continually earns more money, he begins to use more drugs. Many more drugs. Jordan starts his own brokerage firm called Stratton-Oakmont. Jordan hires a staff of criminals to help him sell stocks cheaply. They would sell all these shares cheaply to their clients, then Belfort would buy large quantities of them, driving up the price, and then dump them. Eventually, Jordan begins to have a lot of legal problems as the FBI is finding out about how his brokerage firm works. Although Belfort is being closely watched by the FBI, he continues to spend large sums of money on things like boats, cars, houses, strippers/prostitutes, and last but not least, drugs. As Jordan's already massive drug problem continues to worsen, he is forced to keep a very large portion of his money in a European account to hide it from the Fed. Belfort ends up going to prison for 22 months for fraud
