In American history, women were not afforded as many rights as men. They were treated unfairly because of their gender. Throughout American history there have been American women who have taken a stand and fought for women's rights. Who were some American female right-wing activists in American history who defended themselves and other women across America? One female activist was Susan Brownell Anthony, born February 15, 1820, in South Adams, Massachusetts ("Susan B. Anthony"). Susan B. Anthony was a great woman determined to change women's rights. For example, there is a quote that states, "Susan B. Anthony dedicated her life to the cause, the women's suffrage movement" (qtd. in "Susan Brownell Anthony"). Through Susan's life she made many important achievements towards women's rights. In 1869 with longtime friend Elizabeth Cady Stanton, they founded the Nation Woman's Suffrage Association ("Susan Brownell Anthony"). In 1868-1870 he published a weekly newspaper called “The Revolution” whose motto was “Men their rights and nothing more, women their rights and nothing less” (“Susan Brownell Anthony”). She published this in New York City, dedicated to the empowerment of women ("Susan B. Anthony"). Susan was a courageous woman in standing up for what she believed in. To test the application of the 14th and 15th Amendments of the United States Constitution, she voted in the congressional and state elections in Rochester in 1872 ("Susan B. Anthony"). For illegal voting, she was fined by Justice Hunt but never ended up paying the price for her defiant statement ("Susan B. Anthony"). Not many people these days would be brave enough to do that.
