Should prostitution be legalized? Believe it or not, prostitution is one of the oldest professions in the world. Personally I don't agree with prostitution. It demoralizes women, spreads disease and is dangerous for those who participate. Nevada is currently the only state in the United States to have legalized prostitution. Prostitution is also legal in other countries such as Switzerland, the Netherlands and parts of Mexico. I believe there are some valid reasons why prostitution should be legalized. I believe it would reduce violence against prostitutes, decrease the incidence of sexually transmitted diseases, be a source of revenue, and help law enforcement focus on other, more critical crime cases. American prostitutes are prone to violence, not only from clients, but from so-called "pimps and Johns." A study conducted in Colorado found that prostitutes were 18 times more likely to be killed than those who were the same age and race and were not prostitutes.
